EGN, EGS and REG - Elk Grove's alphabet soup of news outlets
Elk Grove is becoming home to an ever expanding number of Internet-based news gathering outlets. Last week saw the introduction of two more media outlets that are gathering and reporting news and information about our fair city.
For local sports fans, Elk Grove Citizen sports reporter Jon Hull upgraded his Elk Grove Sport's Corner and christened is as ElkGroveSports.com. With all the local sports scores as well as video interviews and feature stories, Hull's site is the local authority on Elk Grove sports.
For those wanting to listen rather than read aboout local news, Elk Grove resident Denny Gomez launched his new podcast program at RadioElkGrove.com. Billed as Elk Grove's only Internet Radio Magazine, REG will air new programs every Friday and promises to cover a wide array of topics of interest to Elk Grove.
Aside from having more choices in news sources, with the additions of REG and EGS, Elk Grove can proudly say we are home to at least three independently owned and operated (including EGN) alternative non-corporate news outlets. What this should tell everyone is that not only are the traditional mainstream media outlets no longer the gatekeepers, but the people of Elk Grove are thirsting for something more than what they have be fed for the last century.
This proliferation of new sources is something that will serve all Elk Grove citizens well and hopefully become a source of civic pride. And of course it ought to keep our elected officials and those serving the public on their toes too.
