Medical Marijuana Growing Restrictions High on EGCC Agenda

Among the several items to be considered at the Elk Grove City Council's regular meeting this coming Wednesday is the much-anticipated ban on outdoor cultivation of medical marijuana.

Since several Elk Grove residents expressed their displeasure with the then unregulated cultivation of medical marijuana last summer, the city council has been moving towards an ordinance that would all but abolish outdoor cultivation and severely restrict and regulate indoor cultivation.

Among some of the restrictions the council will consider would ban outdoor cultivation, limit indoor cultivation to no more than 50 square feet and ban growth from any structure that is 1,000 feet from a school. For those desiring to grow the plants, they would be required to get a permit from the Elk Grove Police Department and be willing to be inspected with a 24-hour notice.

Next Wednesday's meeting starts at 6:00 p.m.
