Elk Grove small business owner Greg Higley has filed papers and has officially entered the race to become Elk Grove's first popularly elected mayor.
(Higley speaking at the 2008 candidates night)
An owner of a local UPS shipping center, Higley is no stranger to the local political arena. In 2008 he ran against then incumbent Mike Leary and Steve Detrick for the city's third council district seat.
In that race Higley finished a distance third behind Detrick and Leary with eight percent of the vote.
Higley is the second person to enter the Elk Grove's most anticipated race in 2012. Elk Grove City Councilman Gary Davis announced his intentions last fall to seek the office
During his 2008 run, Higley's campaign emphasized safety and educational issues.
