A crop duster airplane crashed this morning in Wilton, Calf.

According to Wilton Fire District Chief Tom Dark, the department received the call at 8:42 a.m. this morning. "The pilot experience a mechanical malfunction while spraying a vineyard," Dark said.

The crash happened at 11776 Arno Road in Wilton. Dark, who did not identify the pilot, said after the malfunction the pilot was able to land the aircraft in the field and was not injured and did not require medical attention. The aircraft caught on fire but because the vineyard is well irrigated no grass fires ignited.

Dark said the FAA would be investigating the crash.
