During last Wednesday's Elk Grove City Council meeting, numerous youth were recognized for their various achievements.

Among the recipients were local high school seniors who had won the Elk Grove Green Student Scholarship funded by Elk Grove' garbage contractor, Republic Services.

One of the winners delivered a very interesting commentary on how a portion of Elk Grove residents were sold on walkable communities yet continue to be a highly car-dependent community.

See the comments below.

Problem is, these teens do not contribute to campaigns...so..."your three minutes are up!"

The only message I get out of that is that she's a lazy, spoiled young lady who somehow received a scholarship for delivering a bowl full of pablum.
And what does "sold on walkable communities" have to do with the fact that she hasn't used her tennis shoes? Slow news day?

At least this young lady has the intellectual honesty that most of us, and our city council members is particular, lack.

She forgot one alternative. Ride your bike instead of driving or walking. Bikes are much faster. We bike our kids to school at watch parents sitting in front of the school idling in traffic. Turns out biking is faster than driving and you feel good doing it too.
