Two Sacramento men were arrested last night on suspicion of shoplifting merchandise valued at $777 from an Elk Grove retailer.

According to Elk Grove Police, 42-year old Wendell Corey Delaney and 36-year old Dan Thomas were observed shoplifting by an employee at the Rite Aid on Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road. The two men fled on foot and were seen leaving the parking lot in a gold Acura.

Responding officers located the car on the 11000 block of Bruceville Road and conducted a stop. Upon contact, it was determined the two occupants matched the description of the shoplifting suspects.

An inspection of the car led to the discovery of two Rite Aid shopping baskets and merchandise from the store. The store employee was able to positively identify both suspects.

Delaney was arrested after a records search revealed he had an outstanding arrest warrant and was booked into the county jail where he remains ineligible for bail. Thomas was issued a misdemeanor citation and released.
