The Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club held their final meeting of the year Saturday afternoon by swearing-in officers for 2016 at a get-together in Wilton.
For 2015, the club mixed their monthly meetings with community outreach where several diverse groups were invited to make presentations. Among those appearing at monthly meetings during 2015 were advocacy groups such as The Brady Campaign to Control Gun Violence and representatives from the local Muslim and Sikh communities.
With 2016 being an election year, the group will advocate for Democratic candidates and offer endorsements of party members seeking elected office. Generally the club will be endorsing Democratic candidates appearing on the June primary ballot and for those appearing on the November general election ballot.
The 2016 club officers, who were sworn-in yesterday by Senator Dr. Richard Pan and Assemblymember Ken Cooley, were Dan Schmitt, President; Scott Matsumoto, Vice President; Nancy Fox, Treasurer; and Cat Ricketts, Secretary.
Along with Cooley and Pan, other elected official on hand for the festivities were Sacramento County Supervisor Don Nottoli, Elk Grove City Council Member Darren Suen, Elk Grove Unified School District Trustees Nancy Chaires and Carmine Forcina and a representative from Assemblymember Jim Cooper's office.
The Elk Grove Democratic party meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at the Elk Grove Public Library. More information on the club is available here.
