Suen Revs Up Fundraising Efforts; Possible Run For Elk Grove Mayor?

Although he is in the first year of a four year term, Elk Grove City Council Member Darren Suen continued to raise a substantial amount of cash for his campaign war chest. That was the finding of financial disclosure reports filed last week with the Elk Grove City Clerk's office.
The report which covers the six month period ending December 31, 2017, showed Suen raised $24,500 for the period. For the entire year, Suen raised $51,650.
Although Suen raised $24,500, it came from only seven contributors, six of whom were classified as a business and one from a labor union. Those contributions included the following:
- Cooley and Associates - $10,000
- Taylor and Morrison of California - $5,000
- Reynolds and Brown - $4,000
- Dart Container, Mason, Michigan - $2,000
- Republic Services - $1,500
- PG&E - $1,000
- Calf. Conference Board Amalgamated Transit Union - $1,000

There has been the suggestion that Suen is interested in running against fellow Democrat and current Elk Grove Mayor, Steve Ly this year. Suen has not announced his intentions in the race that already includes Ly and Traci Stafford.
Suen started 2017 with $60,400, incurred expenses of $4,136 and ended the year with $80,764 and debt of $158.

The heck with the stock market. All you need are three votes, some cheap dirt, and let the city use taxpayer's money to stimulate economic development so your land makes you millions!
Interesting note on the Brian Cooley contribution. I think it sends up a red flag that a development consultant who is historically known to give only small contributions suddenly ponies up $10K to Darren Suen. Cooley didn’t even come close to giving that kind of money to his good friend Elk Grove Mayor Emeritus Gary Davis.
Makes one wonder, and therefore, a reasonable question: Is a client behind the contribution, can you say SEPA SEPA SEPA, and didn’t want their name known so they asked Cooley to give the contribution on their behalf, and in turn, Cooley was reimbursed?
If so, and it has happened many times before with other elected officials, that is money laundering, is against the law, and the FPPC fines are some of the heftiest the watchdog agency assesses.
