Podcast - Steve Ly Has No Meaningful Accomplishments as He Seeks a Second Term

June 20, 2018 |

Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly is seeking his second term this coming November. As he seeks re-election, Ly has nothing to show for his efforts leading the second largest city in Sacramento County.

In a reference to recent comments made on KQED's Forum program, Dr. James Taylor of the University of San Francisco noted this dilemma for San Francisco's newly elected mayor, London Breed. With 17 months until her seat is up for election, Taylor notes while being the city's first female African American Mayor, Breed will need to show something more than her historic victory.

While his election as the first Hmong-American mayor was historic, and meaningful for the Hmong-American community, Ly, like Breed, needs to be more than an aspirational figure. Applying the same standard, Ly has little to show in accomplishments during his first 18 months leading the city.
