Sac County Dems go all in on Team Elk Grove, sans Ly

October 29, 2018 |

In what is believed to be a first of its kind, the Democratic Party of Sacramento County has dedicated resources to Elk Grove-based elections. The mailer piece is titled "Elk Grove's only official Democratic Voter Guide."

The DPSC piece received last week by registered Democratic voters in Elk Grove is a four-page glossy mailer promoting five candidates. Those candidates include Elk Grove City Council candidates Orlando Fuentes and Andres Ramos; Rod Brewer and Jaclyn Moreno who are running for the Cosumnes Community Services District Board of Directors; and Rosanna Herber who is running for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District Board of Directors Ward 4 which includes large portions of Elk Grove.

The mailer has a similar look and feel to another mailer sent by the so-called Team Elk Grove slate led by Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly did not include him. Ly is being challenged by fellow Democrats Tracie Stafford and Elk Grove Vice Mayor Darren Suen and since none of the the three received the endorsement of the DPSC membership, none were included on the mailer.

Even though Ly is not included, his presence is nonetheless apparent. In the description and testimonials for the five candidates, each includes the mention of being endorsed by Ly.

It is believed this is the first time since Elk Grove's 2000 incorporation that the DPSC has dedicated a mailer primarily to Elk Grove-based elections. The DPSC did not respond to an email request seeking verification and comment on the mailer.
