In less than one month, plans for the demolition of two shopping centers in Elk Grove have been announced. The first announcement was for the Stonelake Landing shopping center for the proposed $750 million for-profit hospital on the city’s west side.
Forget a hospital. Elk Grove needs to lead the Valley in truck-stop supremacy!
According to a Caltrans web site, Bakersfield leads the Valley race with 7 truck stops. Fresno and Santa Nella are tied for second with 3, and even our closest competitors, Sacramento and Stockton each have 2. Even Lodi who kicks our butt in wine tasting, has 1 truck stop!
C'mon Doan, let's hustle up those "robust" leads and get those Kenworths rolling through GroveTown!
Pea Soup Anderson heck! We want to be the first California location for Waffle House! A shiny new truck stop with the state's first Waffle House will put the Grove on the map!!! Doan, that is your assignment...grab that waffle and syrup and you will have a job for life!
Since D.J and "Eye" have opened the suggestions box, I'll throw in my wish list - Tony Packo's from Toledo, Ohio. Perhaps we can get Cpl. Klinger here to cut the ribbon with the red coat folks from the Chamber of Commerce.
Realistically, our community doesn't have the interstate freeway traffic along Hwy. 99 to bring us even a Cracker Barrel restaurant. By gosh though we do have a McDonald's off Sheldon Road and a sign with a gigantic elk that former Mayor Gary Davis crowed would be a landmark!
I have three suggestions for restaurants in Elk Grove. First, Cracker Barrel ( a chain located in the mid west). Second, a Sonic. And third, an Oyster bar (similar to the one located in the Nugget Reno). Hope you consider.

Hey D.J., if that means Elk Grove will get a Pea Soup Andersen’s with a Danish bakery, let’s get Doan on it.
