A tour of the site of Dignity's Health's hospital in Elk Grove provided an update on what will be the city's first full-service hospital.

The tour of the 30-acre site on Wymark Drive and Elk Grove Boulevard was conducted by Dignity Health's Phyllis Baltz. As president of Dignity's Methodist Hospital, which will relocate its operations to the Elk Grove facility once construction is complete as soon as 2026, Baltz held a walking tour of the site with Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and members of the media.

During the tour, Baltz offered a description of plans for the now-vacant lot, which is directly north of their existing facilities. The hospital will be built in three phases and will start as a 100-bed facility but could expand to 330 beds.

"I am very excited about Elk Grove's first hospital that will break ground very soon, "Singh-Allen said. "I was also pleased to learn that it will be a teaching hospital and they will be able to provide exceptional health care and emergency service for our community and I look forward to continuing to partner with them to keep Elk Grove safe."

Throughout the tour, Baltz noted Dignity Health's facility would be Elk Grove's first full-service hospital. Dignity Health, which had city approvals for several years when they formally announced their plans for the site in January 2020, has been engaged in a bragging rights rivalry with Elk Grove's for-profit medical school, California Northstate University.

CNU, which proposed their massive hospital in December 2018 suffered a setback in February when the Elk Grove Planning Commission denied their application. Since then, they are reportedly considering sites in Rancho Cordova, and according to a source familiar with the project, CNU and Rancho Cordova are currently in negotiations.
