It's Election Season, So It's Time For Campaign Sign Shenanigans

May 2, 2018 |

It's campaign time in Elk Grove, Sacramento County, and California, so the time for campaign sign shenanigans is gearing up. With two hotly elections cycles and a nationally charged political atmosphere for voters, the 2018 season ought to see an onslaught of the practice.

For voters in Sacramento County, the June primary will see two politically charged elections for the Sacramento County Sheriff and District Attorney. Two-term incumbent Sheriff Scott Jones is being challenged by retired Sacramento County Sheriff Commander Milo Fitch while first-term incumbent Schubert is being challenged by Sacramento County deputy district attorney Noah Phillips.

There will be two big issues at play in this year's election for the both offices. For the challengers, there will be the unrest created by the Stephon Clark controversy while the incumbents will lean heavily on the recent arrest of the alleged East Area Rapist, Joseph DeAngelo.

In any case, two campaign signs in Elk Grove for Schubert were defaced in the last two days, but interestingly a nearby Jones sign was untouched. Given that both offices are the highest elected law enforcement officers in the county, the graffiti on the sign was undoubtedly done independently of the challengers' campaigns.

Nonetheless, it shows the heightened emotions for these two offices.

The Shubert signs were defaced weeks ago -- well before the Jones signs went up.
