Visit Elk Grove Shifts to 'Hub and Spoke' Emphasis, New Slogan Revealed at City Council Meeting

May 14, 2018 |

At the recent meeting of the Elk Grove City Council, the new executive director of the local visitor's bureau made a brief presentation on the group's latest campaign to make Elk Grove a tourist destination.

Appearing at the Wednesday, May 9, was J. T. Thompson, the new executive director of Visit Elk Grove. During public comments, Thompson updated the city council on the travel and hospitality group's efforts to develop Elk Grove as a tourist area.

"We have rural roots, a storied history, with a friendly, welcoming, and diverse population," Thompson told the council. "All positive factors when marketing a destination to the world."

Among the ideas presented by Thompson was the view to developing Elk Grove as a hub and spoke to other significant tourist attractions within two hours driving time from the city. Along this line, Thompson said the group has devised a new marketing slogan.

"Explore Elk Grove - wonderfully unexpected," Thompson said. "You are going to be hearing a lot in the coming months."

By his accounts, Thompson has been in position for over two months. He replaces former Visit Elk Grove executive director David Brooks who served for one year ending last summer.

Thompson's complete presentation can be viewed below. The new website can be viewed here
