Aided by eyewitness account, Elk Grove Police arrest juvenile suspected of auto theft




Thanks to the eyewitness account of an Elk Grove resident, police apprehended a youth suspected of auto theft.

Earlier today, a resident called Elk Grove Police Dispatch Center after seeing a person remove a license plate of a vehicle near Gadsby Court and Hoyleton Way in the Laguna neighborhood. That person was seen leaving in a vehicle and the eyewitness provided detailed descriptions of the person, the vehicle and the direction the was last seen going.

Responding officers located the vehicle, which was later determined to be stolen. The suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, led officers on a short pursuit before exiting the vehicle in the driveway of an unrelated residence. 

The suspect ran away and jumped over a sound wall of an adjacent shopping center parking lot, only to find an officer waiting for him. The suspect was taken into custody. 

The suspect was transported to Juvenile Hall on charges of theft of motor vehicle parts, evading, and possession of stolen property.
