Maestas gets contribution from business group

In the race for Elk Grove's district five city council seat, incumbent Sophia Scherman and challenger Katerine Maestas both sought the endorsement of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

In a press release issued this afternoon, the SHCC gave it's nod to Scherman. Along with the endorsement of the area's largest Hispanic chamber, Scherman also received a $500 contribution.

Not all was lost for Maestas though as the SHCC gave her a contribution and said:
"In recognition of her candidacy, and in support of her continued involvement in the electoral and political process, SHCC PAC has – without endorsement – elected to provide financial support for the candidacy of Katherine Maestas, Candidate for Elk Grove City Council.

SHCC PAC members acted on behalf of Ms. Maestas to demonstrate the commitment of area Latino business leaders to encourage and assist well-organized, serious Latino candidacies for local and state elective offices in the region. SHCC PAC commends her effort, and her well-informed candidacy as a model to other potential Latino candidates for local elective office in the Greater Sacramento region."

The amount contributed to Maestas was not disclosed.
