'Marlboro Man' Pombo Sent To Pasture - Again

After losing his Congressional seat in 2006, Republican Richard Pombo attempted a political comeback  this year that fell short. Way short.

The former Tracy-based Republican who was nicknamed 'Marlboro Man' and known as an enviro-thug, attempted to to get back to Congress in California's 19th district being vacated by fellow Republican George Radanovich.

In a four way race, Pombo will likely finish third with State Sen. Jeff Denham of Merced the likely winner now and in November in the Republican stronghold.

It probably didn't help Pombo, who in the past floated ideas such as selling National Parks, that there is a large oil slick sloshing around the Gulf of Mexico and the all major news outlets.
