Yuba-Sutter’s baritone barrister Brant Bordsen reports he won the weigh-off competition in the Giant Pumpkin Party this weekend in Elk Grove.

Caught in the corridors of the Yuba County courthouse Monday, Bordsen – an attorney with the prominent Marysville firm of Rich, Fuidge, Morris & Lane – said his winning entry weighed in at a humongous 1,648 and a half pounds.

“Sixteen hundred and forty-eight pounds, wow,” a reporter said, jotting down the number.

“And a half,” Bordsen reminded.

"And a half," the reporter added.

Bordsen also performs with a chorale group this coming Sunday at the First Lutheran Church in Yuba City.

A graduate of the University of California at Davis and the McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, Bordsen was admitted to the bar in 1981. He did not say how long he has been cultivating pumpkins.

Bordsen received his bachelor of science in biochemistry from UC Davis in 1977 and his juris doctorate from McGeorge in 1981.

He does considerable work in business and civil litigation and has also served as the city attorney of the cities of Gridley, Marysville and Live Oak.

Besides growing pumpkins and pleading cases Bordsen, is also active in the performing arts and local musical arts programs.

He has performed with the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society's production of Messiah and often performs with the Borgamaria Opera Company.
