Detrick Selected Mayor; Davis and Hume Sworn in For Second Terms

Last night Elk Grove City Council Member Steve Detrick was unanimously approved by his fellow council members to be the Mayor of Elk Grove for 2011. Detrick became mayor after the conclusion of last night's meeting and will begin presiding over council meetings for the next year. Detrick had served as the city's Vice Mayor this year. 

In addition to the selection of Detrick, Council Member Jim Copper was also unanimously selected to be Vice Mayor for 2011. 

Along with the selection of Detrick and Cooper, council members Gary Davis and Pat Hume took their oath of office for second four year terms following their respective victories in the November general election. 

Davis took the oath in the company of his wife and three children and Hume was accompanied by his mother and girlfriend.

After the mayoral selection and swearing-in, the city hosted a reception honoring the event. While greeting well-wishers at the reception, when asked how it felt to be Mayor, Detrick quipped, "Wonderful."

"I am looking forward to all the things we can collectively do," Detrick said.

Detrick added that it was gratifying that Hume nominated him for the position given the opposing stances the two have taken on several issues in the last year. Detrick said Hume gesture shows "that there is room for unity" on the council

As for his tenure as Mayor, Detrick said his top two priorities are maintaining Elk Grove's public safety and economic development. "Public safety is the number one item to maintain our quality of life," he said.

In addition the mayor also said he would like to continue to develop closer relationships with the Elk Grove Unified School District and Cosumnes Community Services District. "Maybe we can be a little more collaborative," he noted.
