Elk Grove Police apprehended a car thief yesterday morning in Sacramento.
According to Elk Grove Police, an officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 99 near Mack Road for a code violation. Upon contact, a records check revealed that the the operator, 28-year-old William Stephens of Sacramento, did not have a drivers license.
The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted by the Sacramento Police Department and they said that their vehicle had been stolen. The owner of the vehicle arrived at the location and indicated that they did not know the suspect nor give him permission to operate the vehicle.
The suspect was arrested and transferred to the county jail.
