Victim finds suspect
Instead of being in school, an Elk Grove teen stole a car and led police on a short vehicle and foot pursuit early yesterday afternoon.
According to Elk Grove Police, a 16-year old male observed a car parked in a garage on the 1600 block of Mallardview Way that was being actively unloaded by the resident. The teen then reportedly entered the garage, got into the vehicle and drove out of the garage.
The resident called EGPD and began driving around looking for the stolen vehicle in another car. As officer’s were responding to the area, the resident called EGPD and indicated that they were following the stolen vehicle and were at Elk Grove Blvd. and Auto Center Drive.
Officers pulled in behind the stolen vehicle that was being driven by the suspect. When the suspect turned into the Wal-Mart parking lot, the officers activated their emergency lights and sirens.
The teen did not yield and a short pursuit ensued through the Wal-Mart parking lot. During the pursuit, the suspect collided with a parked vehicle and continued driving without stopping.
The suspect then drove to the front of Wal-Mart where he exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the store. Officers chased him into the store and were able to take him into custody.
The teen was was positively identified by the resident as the person who had stolen the vehicle. A records check also revealed the teen was on probation.
The suspect was arrested and transported to juvenile hall.
