Monday afternoon, the Sacramento Diving and Accident Rescue Team (D.A.R.T.) responded to the 10900 block of River Road along the Sacramento River to assist the Elk Grove Police Department in their search for 15-year-old Shabnam Ahmadyar who had been missing since Friday.

This evening at 6:53 p.m., drivers located the body of a female teenager submerged in the Sacramento River. The body was located 38 feet from the riverbank, 10 to 15 feet from the dock and was at a depth of between 20 and 30 feet.

At this time, based on the physical and clothing descriptions provided by family members, the department believes that the body recovered from the river is that of Shabnam Ahmadyar. Several family members, who had gathered near the location, were informed of the discovery by law enforcement personnel shortly after 7:00 p.m.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office took possession of the deceased and will be conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
