Another draws papers to face Cooper
According to information released by the Elk Grove City Clerk's office this afternoon, LaWanna Montgomery has drawn nomination papers for the Elk Grove Mayoral race.
Montgomery's presumed entry into the race is her third attempt in the last eight years to seek a position on the Elk Grove City Council. Along with Montgomery, the field for the mayoral race swells to five with Jerry Braxmeyer, Greg Higley and Elk Grove Council members Gary Davis and Sophia Schermam.
In 2008, Montgomery ran against incumbent Jim Cooper and despite little name recognition and thin campaign financing, was able to capture over 41 percent of the popular vote. In 2004 Montgomery drew 10 percent of the vote in a five way race.
See video of Montgomery below during a 2008 candidate forum.
In other local election news, James White has also drawn nominating papers to run for the city's District 1 seat against incumbent Jim Cooper.

This is a joke, right?
LaWanna is a very nice lady but has made a few mistakes along the way. One being calling herself a doctor, meaning a Ph.D., back in 2008 when she wasn't,; and second. telling folks at a forum that she hadn't read the General Plan and would do so if she was elected.
Maybe we should give LaWanna a pass on the second item because by all the GP amendments and rezones, that may be also true of a current council member or two!
Dear S. Johnson and Anonymous:
It is good to hear from you again. In 2008 I gained 41%
of the vote. Yes, this is real,
I am running for Mayor of Elk Grove.
I look forward to becoming your Mayor of Elk Grove voted in by the people working for the people to answer your questions.
Have a nice day.
LaWanna Montgomery
Is it still for real? There still are a few more signs to destory out there.
You would save yourself time, money and embarassment by dropping out now. We just don't need another criminal in office. It would have been great however if Cooper could have been the one to arrest you!
Does anyone have a phone number for LM? Usually campaign headquarters are easy to find!
Please let us know if you start a web page or open a campaign office or how to contact you,Ms. Montgomery.
