At tonight's regular meeting, the Elk Grove City Council will consider formalizing a key to the city program.

The item, which according to city documents is being brought forward by Vice Mayor Steve Detick, seeks to formalize the manner in which people are recognized by the city. Keys are typically issued as a form of recognition to a person who has made some significant accomplishment.

Under the city's proposed program, keys can be awarded to residents who made significant accomplishments in the sports, the arts, military service or humanitarian efforts. The key could also be given to visit dignitaries.

Tonight's meeting starts at 6 p.m.
