How about the violent armed robbery earlier in the day at the T-Mobile Store at Bruceville and Elk Grove Boulevard?

All the employees were tied up and the place was ransacked.

This robbery has been all over the news Channels 3, 10, 13 and 40, SacBee, EG Citizen.

Captain Benjamin L. Willard must not have liked the previous comment.

The new south sac! Anyone notice these thugs are fleeing on foot! Does not take a genius to figure out they are running to low income apartments!

Hey Elk Grove, WAKE UP! Low income housing equals south sac!!!!!

Well what are we going to do?

The city recently rezoned or zoned land for 3,600 units of very low and low income housing, 2,300 units of which will be south of Madeira and west of the mall.

Might as well put Mack Road south out away from the established neighborhoods.

You people that don't like what is going on at city hall need to attend a city council meeting and let the council know.

Except for Lynn Wheat and occasionally someone else, no one goes to the meetings or expresses displeasure with what the council is approving before they approve it. - It's easy to complain afterward. We all need to be proactive. Go to the meetings, speak your mind, write e-mails to the council, call and speak with them, but it needs to be done before they vote on it.
Please complain after the fact, but do your part and go to the meetings and speak to your issues before the vote!! Please!!!

While these incidents of teen on teen crime are troubling, they point to a bigger problem as anon 15:46 alluded to. Elk Grove residents are typically apathetic.

If residents, and dare I say voters, looked at who is actually making the decisions they might get involved. Perhaps if voters looked beyond slick mailers they receive and the empty platitudes offered up by our elected reprehensible like "building strong neighborhoods" or empty promise of "morality, integrity" et al., and actually demand results, we might make some progress. Until then, the developers and their puppets on the council will continue with their piece meal knee jerk planning. To many of us have taken the blue pill.

Mr. Thomas A. Anderson - If you, Captain Willard, Vivica Sponlak, Marvin Zindler, Mrs. Olsen, Bainc, Nikki, Jill, Mary P, SteveB6509, Steve L, and Anonymous (x ??) attended the city council meetings and voiced your opinions in person, you can validate your point (which is - "to hell with the city council! They have turned Elk Grove into the worse city to live in the USA.") But until such time, all this jibber jabber serves no purpose other than perhaps help Mr. Gougherty make a living. (No, we surely do not want low or no-income people living in Elk Grove, do we, for they perpetrate all the crimes. So we help those we can.)

It was me and one other resident at last council meeting when the discussion of soccer stadium came up. I do keep going and speaking...really complaining to the source of decisions..and they don't listen nor do they hear. I am not able to put a spin on piecemeal planning nor the spending of public monies that is not going to benefit the majority. Personally I want roads in great shape. Better public transportation to include light rail, a city not littered with signage, and....an urban preserve where surrounding neighborhoods could access by biking or walking, nearby school students could walk to their outdoor science arena . However what I want is very different from others. I do respect others opinions and recognize what I envision does not make us a destination city. I am concerned decisions are based on greed. Affordable housing can be built much differently then it is in our city. It doesn't have to look cheap. We don't have to be Mack rd. But it does take people to participate. We will soon see..is apathy terminal?

This has been a great lesson in civics for me...I plan on getting involved! Too bad I have already lost, will be moving my home and tax dollars somewhere else!

@ Anon 19:31. Thanks for the shoutout. I can't speak for the others you've listed but I have and do attend Council and Planning Commission meetings. I've emailed council members and city staff on various issues. I come here and EGO to see what others are saying about our city and to offer my own opinion.

ANON @ 19:31
THE "JIBBER-JABBER" IS MY ONLY WAY TO SPEAK TO THE PUBLIC AS I CANNOT ATTEND AND SPEAK AT THE COUNCIL MEETINGS.

I CAN SPEAK TO AND E-MAIL THE COUNCIL MEMBERS AND DO SO, AWAY FROM THE MEETINGS.

I DO WHAT I CAN TO TRY AND MAKE MY CITY BETTER. WHAT DO YOU DO BESIDES DEGRADE THOSE WHO TRY AND DO WHAT THEY CAN.

APATHY IS THE WORD FOR ELK GROVE, FITS THE CITY TO A TEE.

To the above poster: Talk about degrading those who try and do what they can: I am personally tired of posters putting down So. Sacramento by often comparing the two. "Elk Grove is the new So. Sac." is something that "Anonymous", without a doubt a big fan of EGN, if not EGN himself, has often stated when describing low income housing and crime statistics.

I grew up in So. Sac, of low income parents who still live there. I am raising my family in Elk Grove and we are happy to live here. We participate in many community activities and donate many volunteer hours. We respect people in all their uniqueness and humanity. We do not announce human foibles to the world (poor Jason). We do not attend city council meetings often but we do reach out to our council members by other means, when necessary. And yes, we came from So. Sac.

I will donate my 2 cents. This blog puts down other cities all the time as well - such as Stockton (where I was born) and Fresno. God forbid his beloved Elk Grove, through mismanagement by its political leaders, follow their lowly and less desirable neighbors' paths. Elk Grove is a young city, has made mistakes and is learning from them. Those who think they can run the city better, run for office as Lyn did. She is a primary example of wanting to do change and being the change, without being negative. I am sure her time will come and she will be elected to office. Unlike the author of this site - who tries to instigate hate for the city council. By the way, for a while you were popular with our people, but now we just want you back into your hell hole!
