December 4, 2015 |

Two suspects were arrested Wednesday night for their involvement in a domestic violence incident that left a juvenile victim with injuries.

According to Elk Grove Police, 45-year old Alicia Marie Smith of Elk Grove was involved in an argument with her juvenile son that escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation Smith allegedly grabbed a knife and tried to stab her son.

The victim was able to grab the knife and stop the attack. When Smith pulled the knife away, two of the victim's fingers were cut.

The victim then fled the residence and contacted police from a local business. Responding officers contacted Smith at the residence where the assault took place and detained her without incident.

Another person at the residence, 57-year old Melvin Billingsly of Sacramento, reportedly was not cooperative with officers and displayed objective signs of impairment. Billingsly was taken into custody after officers overcame his resistance.

Both suspects were arrested and booked into the county jail. Billingsly was released on bail yesterday and Smith is being held on a $50,000 bail with three felony charges including assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment.

The victim was taken to a local area hospital for medical treatment.
