The following information has been provided by the Elk Grove Police Department: |

"At this point in the investigation, we have determined that the deceased was involved in a verbal altercation with his girlfriend and her family. The deceased retrieved a handgun and shot at the family members in the parking lot.  The family members fled and we're not injured. The deceased committed suicide and died as a result of a self-inflicted gun shot wound. The handgun was located next to him on the sidewalk."

UPDATED 7:30 a.m. : Elk Grove Police have determined this incident was a suicide.

Elk Grove Police are investigating a shooting last night that left one man dead.

The shooting occurred around 10:15 on the 9900 block of Bruceville Road. The unidentified victim was shot in the head and a handgun was found nearby. 

The shooting is being treated as a suspicious death. There is no further information and the investigation is ongoing.

This incident happened less than two miles from a multi-location shooting incident on Thursday afternoon. Four suspects were arrested and are in custody in that incident that included gunfire exchange and a car crashing into a restaurant.
